Rafael Nadal withdraws from U.S. Open with wrist injury
Defending champion Rafael Nadal has withdrawn from the 2014 U.S. Open with a wrist injury, he announced on Facebook Monday.
Nadal, the world's No. 2 ranked player, suffered the injury during practice last month, causing him to miss the Rogers Cup in Toronto and last week's Cincinnati Open.

Nadal has won four tournaments on tour this season, compiling a total record of 44-8.
In last year's tournament, Nadal topped Novak Djokovic 6-2, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 to win the championship. Nadal has won the U.S. Open twice in his career.
Nadal's inability to compete means that he will finish 2014 with one Grand Slam victory, the French Open.

Former U.S. Open champion Juan Martín del Potro also will not participate in the tournament after undergoing left wrist surgery in March.
