Both women's semifinal matches will be played on Friday. First, No. 10 Caroline Wozniacki will play unranked Shuai Peng.
Following the first semifinal match, No. 1 Serena Williams will play No. 17 Ekaterina Makarova.

Matches to watch
Serena Williams (1) vs. EkaterinaMakarova (17)
Williams is playing in her first Grand Slam semifinal since she won the U.S. Open last year. To get past the quarterfinal round, she beat Flavia Pennetta in straight sets. Williams has not dropped a set during this year's U.S. Open. Williams has won handily against Taylor Townsend (first round), Vania King (second round), Varvara Lepchenko (third round), and Kaia Kanepi (fourth round).
Serena Williams is looking for her third-straight U.S. Open crown this year. She has won five Open titles and 17 total grand slam championships in her career, though her best result at a major tournament so far this year was a fourth-round appearance at the Australian Open.
No. 1 seeded Williams is the only of the top nine woman's seeds to reach the semifinals.
Williams' opponent is No. 17 Ekaterina Makarova, who also has not yet conceded a set in the tournament. This is Makarova's first semifinal appearance in a Grand Slam. Her previous best was reaching the quarterfinal round, including last year's U.S. Open tournament.
Williams and Makarova have played each other four times. Makarova's only win came in the fourth round of the 2012 Australian Open.
Shuai Peng vs. Caroline Wozniacki (10)
Neither unranked Peng nor No. 10 Wozniacki have ever won a Grand Slam tournament.
Wozniacki beat Sara Errani in the quarterfinal round, in straight sets. In the fourth round of the tournament, Wozniacki upset No. 5 seed Maria Sharapova (6-4, 2-6, 6-2) to reach the quarterfinals at the U.S. Open for the first time since 2011.
This is the farthest Peng has ever advanced in a Grand Slam tournament. Peng has not dropped a set in the tournament. She has beaten Zheng Jie (first round), Agnieszka Radwańska (second round), Roberta Vinci (third round), Lucie Šafářová (fourth round), and Belinda Bencic (quarterfinals).
Wozniacki and Peng have played each other six times. Peng's only win was in 2007.
