Novak Djokovic beat Roger Federer Sunday to win his third Wimbledon title.

In a rematch of last year's final, Djokovic topped Federer  7–6 (1), 6–7 (10), 6–4, 6–3 to become the first man since Federer to win consecutive Wimbledon titles. Federer won five straight championships at the historic tournament from 2003 to 2007.

The match started off tight, neither player able to pull away, culminating in a lengthy second-set tiebreaker eventually won by Federer. Djokovic lost seven break points in the second set, allowing his opponent back into the match. But after a twenty-minute rain delay in the middle of the third set, Djokovic remained composed to close the rest of the set out.

In the final set, Djokovic began to impose his will on a tired-looking Federer and erupted in jubilation after seizing victory. The No. 1 ranked player topped No. 2 and proved worthy of his ranking with a forehand winner that completed a dominant finish to the match.

Djokovic, 28, and Federer, 33, have now met 40 times in their career, tied evenly at 20 wins apiece. Sunday marked their third meeting at Wimbledon, with Federer winning in 2012 on his way to the title and Djokovic taking the championship last year.
