IBU lifts meldonium ban of junior world champion Latypov

SALZBURG, Austria (AP) The International Biathlon Union has lifted the provisional suspension of Russian two-time junior world champion Eduard Latypov after WADA relaxed its guidelines for meldonium cases last month.

The IBU says its anti-doping panel has annulled Latypov's temporary ban as his sample contained only a low concentration of the substance, adding that a final decision ''will be taken when the results of the scientific study initiated by WADA are available.''

The 21-year-old Latypov test positive during an IBU Cup event in February. He became the third biathlete following Ukrainian national team members Olga Abramova and Artem Tyshchenko to get caught for meldonium since the World Anti-Doping Agency banned it on Jan. 1, 2016.

Latypov won gold in the 12.5-kilometer pursuit and 4x7.5 relay at the junior world championships last year.
