Diana Taurasi Signs Multi-Year Deal to Stay With Mercury

Diana Taurasi has starred for the Mercury since the club made her the No. 1 pick in the 2014 WNBA draft. On Saturday morning, Phoenix announced that the legendary guard has signed a multi-year deal to remain with the team.

“Diana Taurasi belongs in a Mercury uniform, and we are grateful for the continued faith she demonstrates in our organization by returning year after year,” general manager Jim Pitman said in the team’s announcement. “The way she prepares her body, how much she cares about winning, and how much she cares about our franchise—on and off the court—are just a few of the things that make her a transcendent athlete and quite literally the greatest of all time. We look forward to more accolades, more historic moments, and more wins.”

Financial details of Taurasi’s new contract have not yet been disclosed. Her last two-year deal, which ran from 2021–22, was worth just under $450,000, per Spotrac. Her 2022 salary of $228,094 was tied for the highest in the league.

Taurasi led the Mercury to WNBA championships in 2007, ’09 and ’14, winning Finals MVP in the two most recent series. She was league MVP in 09, and 10 WNBA All-Star Games and 14 total All-WNBA selections under her belt.
