One WWE SmackDown superstar's firing reportedly caught many off guard backstage.
Details have surfaced on the backstage reaction to one surprising WWE Friday Night SmackDown superstar's release.
WWE has gone on a talent cut spree as of late. Some on-air talent who weren't being used were let go of their contracts in recent weeks. Names such as Von Wagner were a part of the roster cuts. There was one star on the chopping block that has caught many off guard.
As it turns out, some behind the scenes were also taken aback.

Fightful reports that the release of Cameron Grimes was quite surprising to many within WWE. The report notes that while Grimes hadn't been used on the main roster much, he was constantly at the shows. It was also mentioned that the belief is that Grimes' skill level was far superior to the rest of the crop of talents who had been cut.
It was also not lost on some backstage that not only did Cameron Grimes gain popularity while he was on the NXT brand, but that he also constantly improved.
Many fans and experts have questioned WWE's decision to let Grimes out of his deal and feel the company didn't put him in a position to succeed on the SmackDown brand. In a video statement released on his X account, an emotional Grimes said he planned to show WWE that they made the wrong decision.
