FedEx St. Jude Championship Best Bets Today: Jordan Spieth vs. Tommy Fleetwood

The FedEx Cup Playoffs begin today with the opening round of the FedEx St. Jude Championship.

You can find my best bets for the tournament in my full betting preview, but in this article, we're going to focus on the opening round. I have three plays for Thursday's action, so let's dive into them.

Tommy Fleetwood -163 vs. Jordan Spieth

You won't catch me betting on Tommy Fleetwood to win the tournament, but a bet on him to beat a struggling Jordan Spieth seems like a great spot for a wager on him. Fleetwood is second in the field in total strokes gained over the past three months, and he also has two top-three finishes at this event over the past three years.

Spieth's struggles this season continue, and he enters this week ranking 63rd on the PGA Tour in Round 1 scoring average at 69.86. I feel comfortable fading him today.

Harry Hall +100 vs. Corey Conners

It's time to strike while the iron is hot with Harry Hall. He's coming off a T5 finish at the Wyndham Championship, where he gained a blistering 1.50 strokes per round with his approach play. He also posted a solid T22 finish at this event last year.

Corey Conners hasn't been the ball-striking machine this year as he's been in years past, and his chipping has been especially bad. I think the wrong golfer is favored in this matchup.

Sam Burns First Round Leader +2800

With TPC Southwind being a Par 70, scoring on Par 4s is going to be important, and it's none other than Burns who is second on the PGA Tour in Par 4 scoring at 3.95, behind only Scheffler (3.88). He's also fourth in the field in total strokes gained over the past three months. Let’s bet on him to get off to a hot start on Thursday.
