Detroit has won seven of its last 10 games heading into Tuesday’s series opener with the Cleveland Guardians. Cleveland is just a half game back of Detroit in the wild card race.

Oddsmakers have set the Tigers as favorites in this matchup, as Cleveland is struggling over its last 10 games, losing seven of them.

Tanner Bibee (3.85 ERA) is on the mound and aiming to stop the bleeding for the Guardians against a Detroit bullpen that has one of the 10-best ERAs in MLB. The Tigers are giving reliever Drew Anderson the start as an opener tonight.

Spencer Torkelson to Hit a Home Run (+402)

Earlier today, I shared in SI Betting’s best home run picks column – Daily Dinger – why Torkelson is a great target:

Detroit Tigers first baseman Spencer Torkelson is heating up in the month of August, hitting .362 in his last 11 games and .301 with four homers over his last 22 games (21 starts).

Overall, the Tigers slugger has 20 home runs this season, and I’m buying him in a favorable matchup against Cleveland Guardians right-hander Tanner Bibee.

This season, Bibee has given up 23 home runs in 24 appearances, including a three-homer game in his first start this month.

Torkelson has fared pretty well against Bibee in his career, going 4-for-14 (.286) with two doubles, a home run and an OPS of 1.087. With oddsmakers setting the former No. 1 overall pick at +402 to go deep, I think he’s a little undervalued on Tuesday night.

The Guardians have struggled with Bibee on the mound this season, winning just seven of his 24 starts. The right-hander has a solid ERA (3.85), but his FIP (4.58) and expected ERA (4.42) tell a much different story.

Bibee ranks in just the 35th percentile in expected ERA and the 29th percentile in expected batting average against in the 2026 season. So, this is a favorable matchup for a Detroit team that is No. 1 in OPS, No. 1 in batting average and No. 2 in runs scored over the last 30 days.

Now, Bibee did lead the Guardians to two wins over Detroit in 2026, but I’m worried about this Cleveland offense giving him enough support if he doesn’t pitch lights out on Tuesday night.

Cleveland has been shaky on offense all season long, ranking 28th in runs scored and 29th in OPS. So, I love this price for Detroit at home, where it is three games over .500.

The Tigers’ bullpen has a 3.75 ERA this season, and the Tigers are No. 1 in team ERA over the last 30 days (2.80). This team is peaking at the right time, and I expect it to take care of business against another wild card contender.
