Rays vs. Athletics Prediction, Odds, Probable Pitchers, Prop Bets for Wednesday, Aug. 12

The Tampa Bay Rays have won back-to-back games over the Athletics, scoring 10 or more runs in each matchup.

Tampa Bay is running away with the top spot in the American League, as it holds a six-game lead over the New York Yankees (the second-best record in the AL) heading into Wednesday afternoon’s series finale.

Drew Rasmussen (2.75 ERA) is on the mound for the Rays and looking to build on a monster 2026 season against an Athletics team that is way out of the playoff race at 47-73. The Athletics are 17 games under .500 at home this season, and they have the worst run differential in MLB (minus-176).

Jack Perkins (7.08 ERA) will get the start for the Athletics, but he’s struggled in 2026. Oddsmakers have set the Rays as -206 favorites to win this series finale, but how should we bet on them?

I’m eyeing a player prop and a side in this matchup as Tampa Bay eyes a ninth win in a row.

Rays vs. Athletics Best MLB Prop Bets

Rays Best MLB Prop Bet

  • Junior Caminero to Hit a Home Run (+214)

Earlier today, I shared in SI Betting’s best home run prop picks – Daily Dinger – why Caminero is a great bet at Sutter Health Park:

Caminero has left the yard in back-to-back games, pushing his season total to 35 home runs ahead of Wednesday’s series finale against the Athletics.

Sutter Health Park has been extremely friendly to hitters this season, and Statcast’s Park Factors back up the raw numbers. According to Statcast, Sutter Health Park has an overall Park Factor of 113 this season, making it the most favorable stadium for hitters – even ahead of Coors Field.

When it comes to the home run park factor (the percentage of homers observed at Sutter Health Park compared to the average stadium), it ranks second in the league (126 when league average is 100) to only Nationals Park. This means there are 26 percent more home runs observed at Sutter Health Park than the average MLB stadium.

So, I wouldn’t be shocked if Caminero goes deep again on Wednesday afternoon.

The Athletics are starting right-hander Jack Perkins, who ranks in the 10th percentile in ground-ball rate this season and has allowed 15 home runs in 28 appearances (mostly out of the bullpen).

Caminero’s batting average has slipped a bit recently, but he’s still homered seven times over his last 25 games. I’ll gladly back him against a shaky Athletics pitching staff on Aug. 12.

Rays vs. Athletics Prediction and Pick

Over his last three starts, Rasmussen has allowed just seven hits and no runs across 20.0 innings of work, and he should be able to shut down an Athletics offense that is in the bottom half of MLB in runs scored, OPS and Weighted Runs Created Plus (wRC+).

Tampa Bay has won eight games in a row, improving to four games over .500 on the road in the process. It has also won 13 of Rasmussen’s 22 appearances, including his last four outings.

With the Tampa Bay offense teeing off on this Athletics pitching staff (22 runs in two games this series), I don’t expect things to change with Perkins on the mound. The right-hander has a 9.12 ERA since July 1, allowing more hits than innings pitched.

Plus, the Athletics are 0-6 in those outings.

I’ll bet on Tampa Bay winning this game by a pretty wide margin on Wednesday afternoon.

Pick: Rays -1.5 (-135 at DraftKings)
