Oddsmakers have set the Dodgers as massive favorites once again, as they’ll trot out lefty Eric Lauer (4.89 ERA) against Kansas City’s Daniel Lynch IV (2.45 ERA). Lynch will lead a bullpen game for the Royals, and he struggled as an opener in his last outing, giving up four runs (three earned) in 1.2 innings of work.

Yesterday, I bet on the Royals to cover the run line in this matchup, and they did, losing by one run once again. Will we see a similar result on Wednesday?

In today’s edition of Daily Dinger – our best home run picks column at SI Betting – I broke down why I believe Ohtani is due to go deep against Kansas City:

Ohtani is in a serious race with Pete Crow-Armstrong for the NL MVP, and he’s hitting well over the last two weeks, posting a .319 batting average with three home runs in 12 games.

Now, Ohtani takes on a Kansas City team that will rely heavily on its bullpen on Wednesday night. Reliever Daniel Lynch IV is making the start in this game, and he lasted just 1.2 innings in his last outing.

Lynch has given up just two home runs in the 2026 season, but the rest of the Royals bullpen is extremely weak. Kansas City has the No. 29 bullpen ERA (5.36) this season and has allowed 71 home runs.

That’s a great sign for Ohtani, as he should face multiple pitchers that are prone to the long ball.

Overall, Ohtani is hitting .290 this season with 26 homers and a solid .929 OPS.

Royals vs. Dodgers Prediction and Pick

The Dodgers are now just 17-38 on the run line when favored at home, and I have a hard time betting on them to win by multiple runs with Lauer on the mound.

Yes, Los Angeles is 8-1 with Lauer on the bump this season, but he allowed six runs in his last outing and now has a 3.99 ERA and a 5.52 FIP with the franchise. Lauer’s FIP is a sign that regression is coming, and it’s worth noting that he still ranks in just the 18th percentile in expected ERA and the 28th percentile in expected batting average against.

The only concern for the Royals side is that the bullpen has been pretty bad (outside of Lynch) this season.

Kansas City is 29th in bullpen ERA (5.36) and it blew a tie game on Tuesday night to lose in extras.

I don’t expect the Royals to pull off an upset, but the Dodgers have now either lost or won by one run in each of their last 10 games.
