Sunday August 17th, 2014

The Jameis Winston-led Florida State Seminoles are the No. 1 college football team in the country heading into the season, according to an AP poll of rankings released Sunday.

The Seminoles start the season at No. 1 for the sixth time but for the first time since 1999, when they became the first team to hold the spot for the entire season.  Head coach Jimbo Fisher's team starts off the season this year at No. 1 after receiving 57 of 60 possible first-place votes cast by the media on Sunday.

SI WIRE: FSU WR Isaiah Jones declared academically ineligible

Rounding out the top five in the poll are Alabama, Oregon, Oklahoma and Ohio State, respectively, with Auburn coming in at No. 6.

The Bowl Championship Series this year will be replaced by the College Football Playoff, in which a committee selects four teams to compete in two national semifinals.
