West Virginia's Dana Holgorsen clarifies lying to recruits comment
West Virginia head coach Dana Holgorsen clarified comments he made Monday, when he said coaches lie to sign recruits.
Holgorsen said he was talking to a group of reporters about NCAA legislation concerning unlimited meals when its impact on recruiting was mentioned on Monday.
“I know you lie in recruiting a bunch, and that's just part of it,” Holgorsen said.
Holgorsen said he used a poor choice of words when trying to explain his position.

“In a lighthearted moment, I made a comment in jest that was meant to imply that the unlimited meals will be an important selling point with recruits and that all coaches will have to be salesmen on this matter,” Holgorsen said in a statement. “I further implied that the best way for recruits to understand what really is occurring on a campus is by having them talk to the current student-athletes.”
Holgorsen is entering his fourth season at West Virginia and has compiled a 21-17 record during his tenure. The Mountaineers open the season Aug. 30 against Alabama at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta.
