Kansas to hire Texas A&M assistant David Beaty as head coach
Texas A&M wide receivers coach David Beaty will become the head coach at Kansas, a source confirmed. The school later announced the hire.
Beaty, 44, has been coaching the Aggies' wide receivers since 2012 and has coordinated their recruiting the last two years. He previously served as the offensive coordinator at Rice in 2010.
Beaty has worked at Kansas twice previously. He was wide receivers coach from 2008-09 under Mark Mangino and co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach in 2011 under Turner Gill.
Last season, the Aggies posted program records in receiving touchdowns and yards. In addition, Mike Evans set a program record with 1,394 receiving yards before being selected in the first round of this year's draft.
Beaty has strong recruiting ties in Texas, where the Jayhawks have gotten some of their best players in the last decade. He’s a former Dallas-area high school head coach.
Texas A&M's 2014 recruiting class ranked sixth nationally and its 2015 recruiting class is currently seventh, according to Rivals.com. Beaty secured five commitments for the Aggies, putting him in the nation’s top ten recruiters, according to another recruiting service.

Beaty will replace Charlie Weis, who was fired in September after the Jayhawks fell to 2-2 with a blowout loss to Texas. Defensive coordinator Clint Bowen took over for Weis as the interim coach, and Kansas only won one of its last eight games.
Jayhawks have not reached a bowl game since 2008 under Mark Mangino.
News of Beaty's hiring was first reported by Bruce Feldman of FOX Sports.
Others candidates who were considered for the job included Bowen, Nebraska offensive coordinator Tim Beck and Ohio State co-offensive coordinator Ed Warinner.
