Western Michigan coach P.J. Fleck signs six-year contract extension
Western Michigan head coach P.J. Fleck has signed a six-year contract extension, the school announced Thursday.
The deal keeps Fleck at Western Michigan through the 2020 season and makes him the highest-paid coach in the MAC, providing $800,000 per year in total compensation.
Fleck signed the deal in front of the team in Boise, where Western Michigan will play Air Force on Saturday in the Idaho Potato Bowl.

Fleck was hired following the 2012 season at the age of 32, becoming the youngest head coach in Division I-FBS.
After going 1-11 in his first season with the team, Fleck has led the Broncos to an 8-4 record so far this season, accounting for the largest turnaround in school and conference history. He was named MAC Coach of the Year this season as a result.
Western Michigan is playing in its first bowl game since the 2011 season, and the eight wins are the school's most since it won nine games in 2008.

Before joining Western Michigan, Fleck, a former receiver for the San Francisco 49ers from 2004-05, spent a season as the receivers coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The Broncos finished third in the MAC West division, one game behind co-leaders Northern Illinois and Toledo.
