Four-star LB Roquan Smith commits to Georgia without LOI
Four-star linebacker Roquan Smith has committed to Georgia, but will not sign a National Letter of Intent, head coach Mark Richt confirmed on Friday.
Jake Reuse of UGASports.com reports Smith has signed a financial aid agreement to join Georgia. Smith, who attended Macon County High School in Montezuma, Ga., originally committed to UCLA over Georgia, but didn’t sign or fax in his LOI after reports linked UCLA defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich to a job with the Atlanta Falcons.
Ulbrich agreed to take a linebacker coaching position with the Falcons this week.

“He’s not going to sign a letter of intent. The reason why is because what he went through last week," Smith's high school coach Larry Harold told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "This just gives us flexibility in case something else unexpectedly happens again."
According to Harold, Smith’s four finalists were UCLA, Georgia, Michigan and Texas A&M. He had offers from Alabama, Florida State, Penn State, USC, Wisconsin and other schools.
Smith is the No. 6 outside linebacker and the No. 77 recruit in the country, according to Rivals. He will enroll in summer classes and becoming an official recruit on the first day of class.
Smith recorded 79 total tackles, five sacks and two interceptions as a senior in 2014.
