Baylor forward Rico Gathers turned himself into police Tuesday on charges of theft under $500, admitting he shoplifted items from a Waco, Texas, Wal-Mart on June 1, according to a Waco Tribunereport

Gathers was released from McLennan County jail on Wednesday after having posted a $1,000 bond.

An employee at the store showed police video of someone who looked like Gathers walking out of the store with two pillows, a tote bag, a garbage can and a water dispenser without paying for the items, according to the report.

Store employees not only estimated the items Gathers made off with were valued at $171, but also said that they believed Gathers had stolen items from the store on previous occasions, according to Waco police sergeant W. Patrick Swanson.

“We are aware of the situation involving Rico Gathers and are in the process of gathering the facts to determine what transpired,” Baylor coach Scott Drew said in a statement Wednesday. “It would be inappropriate for me to comment further at this time.”

Gathers, a rising senior, averaged 11.6 points and 11.6 rebounds per game for the Bears during the 2014-15 season. He was also named first-team All-Big 12.

The 6'8", 280-pound forward led the conference in double-doubles during the year with 16.
