Sources: Indiana State hires UW's Gerald Alexander as DBs coach
Washington defensive graduate assistant Gerald Alexander is Indiana State’s new defensive backs coach, according to sources.
Last season was the highly regarded 31-year-old Alexander’s first year with the Huskies. He was also a graduate assistant at Arkansas State in 2013.
Prior to that, Alexander coached at his alma mater, Rancho Cucamonga (Calif.) High School after playing safety for five seasons in the NFL. He was a second-round pick by the Detroit Lions in 2007.
Alexander played at Boise State from 2002-06. He was a teammate of Indiana State coach Mike Sanford Sr.’s son and now-Notre Dame offensive coordinator, Mike Sanford Jr., while with the Broncos.
Indiana State had an 8-6 record last season and advanced to the second round of the FCS playoffs. Alexander replaces Anthony Perkins who became Ohio's cornerbacks coach this week.
