Report: LSU won’t make decision on Les Miles until after Saturday game
The administration at LSU will not make the decision to either retain or fire longtime head coach Les Miles until after the team’s regular season finale on Saturday, according to ESPN.
Referencing an unnamed source, the report says that the higher ups are not just looking at Miles’s performance before making the decision, but also taking into account the coaches that may be available.
ESPN reported earlier in the week that the school will likely spend the $15 million to buy Miles out of his current contract. Boosters have reportedly already pledged to help pay the buyout. Miles is under contract until 2019.
LSU is coming off three consecutive losses for the first time in Miles’s tenure, and the first time under any coach since 1999.
Since joining LSU in 2005, Miles has failed to coach teams that won at least10 games only three times. The Tigers finished the 2014 season 8–5, ending the season unranked for just the second time during his career at LSU.
LSU is currently 7–3 and not ranked in the AP Top 25 or the Coaches’ Poll. The Tigers finish their regular season at home against Texas A&M.
Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher, who worked as an assistant at LSU, is rumored to be high on the school’s wish list of coaches.
