Missouri dismisses quarterback Maty Mauk from football program
Missouri has dismissed quarterback Maty Mauk from the team's football program, head coach Barry Odom announced.
“I met with Maty Mauk this morning and informed him of my decision to permanently dismiss him from the football program,” Odom said in a statement. “When I met with Maty back in December, I wanted to give him an opportunity for a fresh start, but I also made it very clear what our expectations would be moving forward. After gathering information and speaking with a number of individuals this week, it is clear Mauk has failed to live up to those expectations by violating team rules in recent weeks.”
Mauk posted a hand-written note on Twitter, where he apologized to fans and said he will “continue to make myself the best I can be.”
The school has determined that a video posted on social media earlier in the week, where Mauk is seen snorting a white substance, is old but “concerning.”

Mauk was suspended in late September for failing a drug test, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, and was reinstated in October after missing four weeks. The team suspended him for the remainder of the year on Nov. 1 after he was involved in a dispute outside a bar in Columbia. He was reinstated in December by new football coach Barry Odom and welcomed back to team activities.
Mauk would be a redshirt senior in 2016. He threw 42 touchdowns and 19 interceptions in 32 games with the Tigers. He was expected to compete against Drew Lock, who started in Mauk’s absence, for the starting quarterback job in 2016.
