Watch: Blocked shot in OT secures Florida Gulf Coast tourney bid
Championship week is off to quite the start.
Hours after Northern Iowa punched a ticket to the NCAA Tournament on a buzzer-beating shot from senior Wes Washpun, a Florida Gulf Coast freshman helped his team get to the dance.
With time winding down in overtime of the Atlantic Sun Championship, Zach Johnson rose up to block a potential game-tying layup from Stetson’s Divine Miles to give the Eagles a 80–78 win over the Hatters.
Johnson finished with 19 points in 33 minutes, while Antravious Simmons led the team with 21.
Florida Gulf Coast enters the tournament with a 20–13 overall record. It’s the school’s first trip to the tournament since 2012, when it advanced to the Sweet 16 as a 15 seed in its first year of full Division I postseason eligibility.
