Ex-Duke star Christian Laettner facing involuntary bankruptcy

Former Duke star and NBA player Christian Laettner is facing involuntary bankruptcy after five creditors said in a court filing that he owes them $14.05 million, according to the News & Observer.

Laettner has struggled with his finances during his post-playing career, which included 13 NBA seasons, largely in part due to failed ventures into real estate development.

The creditors also want Laettner’s financial affairs to be supervised by the U.S. Bankruptcy Court Middle District of North Carolina in Durham.

According to Laettner’s attorney, Hassan Zavaereei, Fuller Street Development, which lists Laettner as a partner, recently received $28.3 million for a project in the West Village area of downtown Durham.

Zavaereei believes that the funds from this project could help settle Laettner’s issues with the creditors.

Laettner has previously been sued by Scottie Pippen, Shawne Merriman and a number of corporations for failing to repay loans.
