Baylor WR Ishmael Zamora charged with misdemeanor for beating dog
Baylor wide receiver Ishmael Zamora has been charged with a misdemeanor and will be disciplined by the team after a video surfaced of him beating his dog.
A Snapchat video obtained by KXXV-TV in Waco, Texas shows Zamora beating his dog with a belt after it went to the bathroom in the house. A former Baylor student saw the video and reported it to Animal Control, the Baylor Police Department and the athletic department.
Zamora was ultimately charged with a misdemeanor and given a citation that could cost up to $500. He sent the dog to live with his relatives after the incident, according to police documents.
"I lost my temper trying to discipline him," Zamora said. "I’ve been through training with a dog trainer to help me learn new potty training tips."

Head coach Jim Grobe said Zamora's playing status will be affected by the incident, though he will continue to practice with the team.
"We're not going to tolerate it," Grobe said, according to the Waco Tribune-Herald. “He’s going to be disciplined by a bunch of people. The city is going to get a piece of him, and the university doesn't take it lightly. Hopefully, it's a teaching moment and a learning experience for him.
“I think he was just frustrated and spanked his dog for not being house-trained, and you just can’t do that,” Grobe added. “He knows that. He loves the dog and takes great care of the dog, other than, you know, losing his temper with the dog. I think he’s taken pretty good care of him."
Zamora played in 10 games in 2015 as a redshirt freshman, making nine catches for 132 yards and two touchdowns. He is expected to be one of Baylor's top receivers this season.
