Georgia Tech Hires Temple's Geoff Collins as Next Head Coach

In two seasons at Temple, Geoff Collins went 15-10 and won a bowl game.

Georgia Tech has hired Temple head coach Geoff Collins to the same position, the team announced Friday.

Los Angeles Chargers offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt was also in talks to takeover the program but removed his name from consideration for the position on Thursday, Dec. 6, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported.

Collins has been at Temple for the last two seasons and went 15–10 with the Owls during that time, including a win in last season's Bad Boy Mowers Gasparilla Bowl.

Temple went 8–4 under Collins this season and will play in the Independence Bowl against Duke on Dec. 27. Collins’ 26-year coaching career also includes a pair of stints at Georgia Tech, first as a graduate assistant and tight ends coach from 1999-2001. He returned as recruiting coordinator in 2006. 

Collins will replace Paul Johnson, who has been with Georgia Tech since the 2008 season. The Yellow Jackets went 7–5 this season under Johnson and will face Minnesota in the Quick Lane Bowl on Dec. 26. Johnson previously announced that he will retire after the bowl game.
