Drew Timme Reflects on Gonzaga Tenure After Elite Eight Loss to UConn
Gonzaga's run in the NCAA tournament didn’t end as the program had envisioned. The Bulldogs were beat down 82–54 by UConn in the Elite Eight on Saturday.
Star center Drew Timme was in foul trouble for much of the game, ending the night with 12 points and 10 rebounds in what was potentially his final game for the Zags.
While Timme has another year of eligibility left in the NCAA, it’s unclear if he plans to continue his college basketball career. He didn’t directly address his future after the loss, but spoke on his tenure at Gonzaga.
“While this ride might not have end how we wanted it to, it’s more about the journey, the relationships, the good, the bad, the ugly. That’s what makes these things so emotional, is how much you put into something. I’ll do anything for Gonzaga. I always will,” said Timme. “This isn’t a goodbye, this is a see you later. I always want to be around the program.”
Timme has been with the Bulldogs for the last four years, playing a key role in their success. He’s started 100 games in the last three seasons, averaging 19.8 points, 7.1 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game during that span.
Whether or not his time in Spokane is up, he’ll go down as one of the most beloved Bulldogs in Gonzaga history.
It was an emotional exit to the tournament for the Zags, who endured a historic defeat at the hands of UConn. But as Timme said in his post-game comments, it’s the overall journey that he's going to remember when it’s all said and done.
