Michigan QB J.J. McCarthy, Teammates Post Same Message After Harbaugh News: ‘Bet’

Following the news that the Big Ten conference has banned Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh from coaching on the field in the Wolverines’ final three games of the 2023 regular season on Friday, several of Michigan’s star players posted one-word messages on social media.

The punishment, which will force the Wolverines to face conference showdowns with Penn State, Maryland and Ohio State without Harbaugh’s guidance, has created a “Michigan vs. Everyone” battle cry.

Building off of that stance, starting quarterback J.J. McCarthy was among the first to post on X, formerly known as Twitter, in apparent response to the news.

“Bet,” wrote McCarthy.

In today’s slang, the word “bet” is used when you’re in agreement with something, but often in a sarcastic, defiant tone.

The junior quarterback was joined by offensive lineman Trevor Keegan, LaDarius Henderson, Karsen Barnhart, Zak Zinter as well as defensive stars Kris Jenkins, Mike Sainristil and Josh Wallace in posting the one-word message.

The posts appear to be a message of defiance to the Big Ten’s punishment while implying they are embracing the “Michigan vs. Everyone” mindset as the Wolverines embark on their title run.
