O'Neal has long shown an interest in police work, previously working with the Miami Beach PD in a reserve role in 2005.

Although Shaq's presence at city hall did briefly grind a committee meeting to a halt, city spokeswoman Christina Baguer told the Miami Herald that his application will go through the same process as all the others.

“If he passes, he will then have to do everything else to be certified by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, just like any of our other officers, reserve or not reserve,”
