Grocery chain Food Lion, partnering with one of their vendors to give away a trip to Super Bowl XLIX in Glendale, Ariz., sent out a series of tweets that were aimed at giving fans of certain teams a consolation prize even if their team couldn’t go to the Super Bowl.

Among the teams Food Lion eliminated from contention were the San Francisco 49ers, who at 6-4 are still very much alive in the postseason chase.

Also not in Super Bowl contention, according to Food Lion, were the NFC-South leading Atlanta Falcons, the New Orleans Saints, the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Dallas Cowboys—all very much in the hunt.

Food Lion also wiped out the Washington Redskins, Carolina Panthers and New York Giants—more realistic, yes, but mathematically not there yet.

All of that was followed up with a mea culpa from Food Lion.

Thanks to the powers of Food Lion, we just might be getting a seven-team Super Bowl extravaganza this February. Sorry, Redskins fans, but Food Lion apparently saw no reason to apologize for eliminating your team from the Super Bowl.

For the record, just one team has been officially eliminated from playoff contention. That would be the Oakland Raiders, who got their first win of the season Thursday night over the Kansas City Chiefs to improve to 1-10.
