New Yankees shortstop Didi Gregorious is a knight

Derek Jeter was The Captain, but Didi Gregorius is Sir.

Gregorius, newly acquired by the Yankees to replace Jeter at shortstop, gave his first interview with New York writers on Friday and revealed that he is really a knight.

When he won the 2011 IBAF Baseball World Cup with Curacao, Gregorius and his teammates were knighted instead of receiving monetary compensation.

Gregorius goes by Sir Didi on Twitter, and even occaisionally in real life.

"Some people actually go, they call me Sir Didi and everything," he said, according to NJ.com. "But I don't really mind if you call me Didi. It doesn't really matter."

Since it happened a few years ago, Diamondbacks fans had already caught wind of it, but it's news to everyone in New York who thought Jeter's title was the most royal of all.
