Virginia Tech's athletic teams got the peculiar nickname of Hokies from a cheer written for the school all the way back in 1896, meaning apparel makers have had plenty of time to learn the proper spelling.

Unfortunately, one manufacturer was careless and sent these shirts for the “Hookies” to a Sam’s Club store in Virginia.

• Bill Murray tossed a ceremonial first pitch over the backstop

Things got even worse for the Hokies, or Hookies, and their apparel later Monday.

Virginia Tech is slated to start the season at home against defending national champion Ohio State on Sept. 7, which it defeated 35–21 last year.
