Cardinals Player Live-Streams Manager’s Epic, Profanity-Laced Postgame Speech

In Thursday’s Hot Clicks: Mike Shildt gets his team fired up, the Nats get over the hump and much more.

The Cardinals’ manager gave a hell of postgame speech

Cardinals manager Mike Shildt celebrates in the locker room.

How hyped is Cardinals manager Mike Shildt to be going to the NLCS? Just listen to his postgame speech.

Shildt’s team eliminated the Braves in emphatic fashion in winner-take-all Game 5 in Atlanta and the skipper was beyond fired up when addressing his players in the clubhouse during the champagne celebration.

It was a hell of a speech and a fascinating look into the atmosphere in a victorious playoff dressing room. But clearly we were never meant to see it. It only got out because rookie outfielder Randy Arozarena streamed the speech live on his Instagram page. He deleted the video, but not before it was recorded by other social media users and started going viral.

Arozarena later apologized for the leak.

“I want to apologize to my teammates, manager, the Cardinals organization and baseball fans for the video I posted tonight after our victory in Atlanta,” Arozarena said in a statement. “It was a moment meant to be private. I made a rookie mistake by sharing it on my social media account.”

Keep your head up, Randy. It certainly could have been worse. You could have shown all your followers a teammate’s naked body.

Well that was fast

The Cardinals-Braves Game 5 was about as anti-climactic as a winner-take-all game can be. After a 10-run first inning by the Cards, it was pretty much over

“I knew we had him on the ropes,” St. Louis third baseman Matt Carpenter said of Braves starter Mike Foltynewicz. “I’m just trying to take a good at-bat and extend the inning. It felt like we blinked, and it was 10. It happened so fast.”

The Nats finally did it

For the first time in franchise history, the Nationals have won a playoff series. Not since its days in Montreal had the club advanced past the first round of the playoffs. In typical Nats fashion, they made it very, very interesting.

After falling behind 3–0 early, Washington came back to tie it on back-to-back homers in the eighth, eventually sending the game to extra innings. That’s when Howie Kendrick blasted a grand slam off of Joe Kelly to take a four-run lead in the tenth.

Even the game’s final out was a heart-stopper.

The scene was absolute pandemonium across the country at Nationals Park, where thousands of fans gathered to watch the game even though the Metro wasn’t running.
