Mikal Bridges Reveals How He Found Out He Was Part of Kevin Durant Trade

Count Mikal Bridges among those who were caught completely off-guard by Kevin Durant’s stunning blockbuster trade from the Nets to Suns Wednesday night.

Although you may be wondering how that’s possible considering he was involved in the deal, the now ex-Sun forward sounded like he was anything but in the loop while discussing the situation during Thursday’s Bulls-Nets game at Barclays Center. Speaking with TNT’s Jared Greenberg, Bridges told the story of how he found out from Suns guard Damion Lee that he had been traded along with Cam Johnson, Jae Crowder, four first-round picks and a 2028 pick swap to Brooklyn for Durant and TJ Warren.

“So, my boy, Damion Lee, we [were] in a hotel and he FaceTimed me, and you could tell he was upset,” Bridges said. “And he was just like, I’m sorry, like, I’m sorry about this and that and I’m like, ‘What are you talking about?’ He was like, ‘You ain’t see?’ I’m like, ‘See what?’ He was like, ‘You got traded to Brooklyn for KD.’ I was like, oh man, went to Twitter, saw it, that’s when I tweeted and then my agents called me like a couple minutes later.”

While the new Nets wing didn’t sound too enthused during his re-telling, Bridges was likely still adjusting to the reality of being moved following five solid years in Phoenix. But then again, the whirlwind end to the 26-year-old time’s with the Suns still probably doesn’t quite compare to the wild start to his career when he was traded by his hometown 76ers—the organization that employed his mother—an hour after being drafted.

Hang in there, Mikal.
