Saints’ Michael Thomas Appears to Be Very Excited for Derek Carr
The Saints signed Derek Carr to a four-year deal on Monday, paving the way for the veteran quarterback to serve as the starter in New Orleans beginning in 2023.
Already, one of Carr's new teammates seems eager to get to work.
Shortly after news of the quarterback's signing broke Monday morning, Saints receiver Michael Thomas took to Twitter and appeared to react positively to the thought of having Carr throwing him passes next season. He posted a rather simple message in the minutes after the initial reports of the deal emerged: “Thank you Jesus.”
Thomas later retweeted a post from the NFL’s official Twitter account that shared a picture of Carr with the caption “The @Saints got their guy.”
Thomas, a two-time former All-Pro and the 2019 Offensive Player of the Year, has battled injuries for most of the last three seasons, resulting in him playing in just 10 games since 2020. After missing the ’21 campaign entirely, the 30-year-old receiver made just three appearances this past fall, racking up 171 yards and three touchdowns on 16 catches before ending the year on injured reserve with a foot injury.
Thomas has two years remaining on his deal with the Saints, both of which should be spent with Carr, who signed a four-year, $150 million deal with New Orleans on Monday. The franchise will hope that the quarterback and the receiver quickly make a connection so that they can lead the offense to new heights this upcoming season.
