Kenny Smith Calls Shenanigans on Charles Barkley’s Gross Uniform Story

It seems as if TNT analyst Charles Barkley has a viral take that spreads like wildfire across the internet at least a couple times per month.

His most recent story is about how he used to wash his jerseys on road trips, which had fellow analyst Kenny Smith baffled to the point where he thought Barkley was making the story up.

Barkley explained his interesting method of cleaning his uniform during the network’s coverage of the men’s NCAA tournament on Friday.

“I’m so old, we used to take a shower in our uniforms,” Barkley said after commending the trainers and basketball support staffers of the schools in the tournament.

As soon as Barkley made that comment, Smith shot a baffled look at his co-host.

“Wait timeout, there’s no era where you did that,” Smith said as Clark Kellogg and Greg Gumbel laughed in the background. “You’re making this up.”

“No I’m not,” Barkley said back, totally perplexed that Smith didn’t believe him.

“You’re making this up!” Smith said again. Meanwhile, Kellogg, who was doubled over laughing, interjected.

“Wait, Kenny, let him finish! Let him finish Kenny!”

“When I first got to the NBA, we flew commercial,” Barkley continued. “So when you played the night before, and flew the next morning, when were you exactly going to get your uniform clean? So you had to wash your uniform yourself. So after the game, when you got to your room, you took a shower in your uniform and dried it and [brought] it on the commercial airline the next day.”

The entire set couldn’t believe the story.

“That’s why you had to let him finish!” Kellogg said to Smith, as he was laughing so hard he could barely get the words out. “You could clean your uniform without showering in it! That is possible. You can actually clean it without showering in it.”

“No, but it’s easier to do it that way!” Barkley said with a huge smile on his face.

Chalk it up to Chuck being Chuck.
