Mets Announcers Slammed Buck Showalter After ‘Horrific’ Loss, and MLB Fans Loved It

In this story:
The New York Mets have been one of the biggest disappointments in the 2023 MLB season, and that narrative only gained steam after Sunday’s ugly loss to the Philadelphia Phillies.
In case you missed it, New York gave up four runs on just one hit in the bottom of the eighth inning and lost the game, 7-6. That brutal inning included three walks, two hit batters and an ugly error.
The Mets got a runner on with no outs in the ninth inning, but then Mark Canha and Tommy Pham struck out, and Jeff McNeil flied out to center to end the game.
The Mets’ broadcasting crew of Gary Cohen, Keith Hernandez and Ron Darling immediately crushed Buck Showalter and the team for their “horrific” loss:
Gary Cohen sums up the loss.

"The Mets 42nd loss of the year is their most horrific."
"Buck Showalter tried to stay away from his best relievers and the Mets paid the price." pic.twitter.com/qTYaYx8Bgr
That’s a whole lot of honesty from a team’s own announcers.
MLB fans loved it:
One of the reasons why the @Mets broadcast crew is so fantastic is their aversion to sugar-coating what they see. Too many crews avoid the faults of the teams they cover, usually with silence. Gary, Keith, & Ron don't insult their audience's intelligence. #Mets https://t.co/6ty2FJV0Pw

Painful to hear this criticism from Gare, but it's true. This is what makes our booth great, not afraid to tell it like it is to sugarcoat & make us delusionally positive when we really shouldn't be. #LOLMets #LFGM #LGM #Mets #NYMvsPHI https://t.co/H6paRzBDZP

You don't usually hear a team's play-by-play announcer talking this way about the team's manager. https://t.co/6stLXQautl

About as stinging of a rebuke of a managerial decision that you’ll hear from a play by play announcer.

Gary Cohen rightfully grills Buck Showalter. https://t.co/SRpGdivuLo
Gary is spot on, as usual. https://t.co/bN9VZAt3UR

Few “home team” broadcasts are as candid as the Mets telecast.
