The Cowboys stepped forward and pulled off an unexpected trade for 49ers quarterback and former No. 3 pick Trey Lance Friday evening, according to multiple reports, leaving the NFL world stunned and largely confused.
However, one name—other than Lance’s—quickly began to circulate around social media as fans tried to make sense of the deal: Dak Prescott.
Prescott, who’s poised to enter his eighth year at the helm of the Cowboys’ offense, has been a stable presence in Dallas since he was selected in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL draft. He’s made two Pro Bowls, won Offensive Rookie of the Year honors and thrown for 166 touchdowns compared to just 65 interceptions, while throwing for more than 4,000 yards twice.
That being said, Dallas has struggled to break out of an alarming postseason slump over the past 25 years and Prescott has become the face for that disappointment for many. During the 30-year-old’s seven seasons in the league, the Cowboys have made the playoffs four times, but have never advanced to the NFC championship game, let alone the Super Bowl.
