California teaching pro Michael Block, who gained popularity after making the cut at the PGA Championship last month en route to a T-15 finish, failed to qualify for the U.S. Open in “Golf’s Longest Day” on Monday.

Block shot 5-under 135 in 36 holes at Toronto’s Lambton Golf & Country Club on Monday, which was good for a sixth-place finish, two shots out of third place. The top three golfers out of the 27 who participated in final qualifying made it through to the U.S. Open at Los Angeles Country Club next week.

Although Block won’t play in next week’s U.S. Open, he will be in the field for the RBC Canadian Open this week thanks to a sponsor’s exemption.

Block mentioned after the PGA Championship that he would be trying to qualify for both the U.S. Open and the Open Championship overseas next month. Although he fell short of his goal of competing in the U.S. Open, this may not be the last we see of Block this season in major championships.

Michael’s son Dylan also competed in final qualifying on Monday at Hillcrest Golf Club in Los Angeles but did not make it out of the 89-player field at the event.
