Live score recap: Edina defeats Holy Family in Minnesota (MSHSL) Class 2A semifinal (2/21/2025)

ST. PAUL — The No. 1-seed Edina Hornets defeated the No. 5-seed Holy Family Catholic Fire 1-0 in the Minnesota (MSHSL) high school girls hockey state tournament on Friday at Xcel Energy Center.
The Hornets defense suffocated the Fire's attack all game, but Holy Family Catholic had a chance to tie the game in the final twenty seconds.
Edina's Taylor Gardner went to the penalty box in the final minute for cross checking, and Holy Family had a 6-on-4 opportunity. Holy Family's Josie Linn, who has scored the most goals for the Fire this season, skated around a defender and right at Edina goalie Reese McConnell.
McConnell had only faced 11 shots to that point, but as Linn went for the backhand, McConnell stretched and made the save, and 21 seconds later, Edina clinched its spot in the 2025 Class 2A championship game.
"I trusted my teammates, and I knew we could do it, and I knew that was the moment we worked for," McConnell said. "I knew I just had to be big and be able to make the stop when I needed to."
The Hornets outshot the Fire for most of the game, but both teams entered the third period without a goal. Edina scored what became the game-winning goal when Libby Moe's shot from outside the left face-off circle hit Kate McCoy on the way in.
Edina will face Hill-Murray in a rematch of the 2024 Class 2A title game on Saturday night at the Xcel Energy Center. The Hornets won the game last year, and they'll be going for their sixth title in school history.
"They're going to [want] a lot of revenge for what happened last year," McConnell said.
