Brendan Ryan was part of the trade that sent Starlin Castro to the New York Yankees.
Ryan hit .229 with six doubles and two triples in 96 at-bats in 2015. He was sidelined for most of the season with a back injury, a calf strain and a pulled hamstring. He also suffered from heat exhaustion while rehabbing.
The Cubs roster remains at 40 players, as the team also claimed left-handed reliever Edgar Olmos off waivers.
