Angels MLB Pipeline Rankings 2026: Farm System and Top 100 Update

While the latest update shows a solid positive shift, it stands in stark contrast to the start of the year, when the early MLB Pipeline rankings served as another indictment of the Angels farm system. Getting the bottom feeder farm system up to MLB average in six months was going to require a massive effort and some breakout performances. Thanks to a trade deadline fire sale, the Angels farm system is moving in the right direction but there still is significant work to ahead.

100 prospects split among 30 teams should mean each team has 3.33 prospects on the list. That is not the case but the Angels have doubled their number of entrants and now sit at two. As we did when the preseason rankings came out, let's look at what the updated rankings really say about the Angels farm system.

It is important to note the players selected in te 2020 MLB Draft are not yet listed. Once that update is made we will again do a deep dive into the list.

Tyler Bremner and Arjun Nimmala are elite talents

Yes, the Angel only have two entrants on the Top 100 list but they are both rated in the top half of that list. 2025 second overall pick Bremner slots in at 42 with the recently acquired Arjun Nimmala directly behind him at 43.

Having two prospects rated this highly is better than having three or four clinging to the bottom of the list. Organizational rebuilds are based on prospects with future values of 50 or greater and both Bremner and Nimmala are rated 55 with individual tools rated 60 or greater. There are no guarantees when it comes to prospects but solid all around players with at plus rated tools give organizations genuine hope for quality MLB players.

The Angels are up to five prospects with 50 or higher future value grades, which is another recent high point.

Arguing Bremner Was Still a Bad Pick

Yes, Bremner clocks in at 42 on the list but the Angels could have greatly improved upon that with a better pick in last year's draft. Kade Anderson was selected by division rival Seattle with the following pick and sits at number 5 on the list with a 60 future value grade. Not only did Anderson have a stronger platform year in college he greatly outperformed Bremner as a professional.

Immediately behind Anderson is young fireballer Seth Hernandez who was selected sixth overall. And fifth overall selection Liam Doyle is rated 22.

Former GM Perry Minasian was known for prioritizing players he thought would be quick to the Major Leagues rather than drafting based on true talent. Given a golden opportunity to make a franchise altering draft pick he again went with floor and timeframe over upside and the rankings reflect that.

Hitting vs. Pitching Balance

The Angels farm system is much more balanced now than it was in March. In the last iteration of the rankings four of the top five and nineteen of the top thirty prospects were pitchers. Now, the top ten is split evenly at five apiece and position players outnumber pitchers sixteen to fourteen overall.

Part of this is due to Walbert Urena and Ryan Johnson losing their prospect status but a larger part is due to improvement by several position players. Raudi Rodriguez went on an absolute tear in AA in May and June while Hayden Alvarez punched above his weight in A ball. Those two both saw significant improvements in their rankings.

Those performances plus the additions of Nimmala, Jacob Cozart, and Angel Arredondo added notable bats to a pitcher heavy system. Once the 2026 draft class is added Jared Grindlinger, Jarren Advincula and likely Gavin Grahovac will be added to the list and create a bat heavy system.

Even Distribution Throughout the Affiliates

Angels scouting director Tim Mcllvaine stated his goal is to develop waves of talent that can follow each other and create continued success. In order to fulfill that goal, each level of the Angels farm system needs to be stocked with talent. Ideally groupings of players will ascend together and add to the big league club collectively.

Nelson Rada and Raudi Rodriguez headline the AAA entrants on the list. Joel Hurtado was recently promoted to that level and should be in line for a big league look soon, even if out of the bullpen. George Klassen was recently promoted from AAA. With notably prospects like Christian Moore and Kyren Paris in Salt Lake but no longer rated as prospects, the Angels are slowly building up the Bees.

Move down a level and the most interesting prospects are grouped together. Nimmala and Bremner are both at AA Rocket City and they are joined by Jacob Cozart, Juan Flores, Nate Snead, and Jake Munroe.

High A is much thinner but does feature Hayden Alvarez who is climbing up everybody's boards right now. Signed in January of 2024, the 19 year old has above average grades for his hit, arm, and fielding tools. He is joined in High A by right hander Dylan Jordan. Expect most of the SEC heavy 2026 draft class to be at this level next year.

Closest to the big league stadium in A ball, the Inland Empire team features slugger Gabriel Davillo, shortstop Joswa Lugo, and right hander Trey Gregory-Alford, a high school pick from 2024 with real upside. Currently Jarren Advincula, Jaxon Willits, and more from the 2026 draft class are at this level. Those players will be on the next wave of the top prospects lists.

Verdict: The Angels are Moving in the Right Direction

Rebuilding in baseball takes years and this youth movement is long overdue. Between a well executed draft and some significant trades, Angels GM John Mozeliak has added a lot of talent to the organization. Much of it is not yet rated by MLB Pipeline but will be added soon.

More could be added through off season trades and the Angels are assured of picking very early in rounds two through twenty of the 2027 draft. Minor league and college baseball will continue even in the event of a prolonged lockout, so the Angels will have the ability to further develop this talent next season.

Overall the Angels are likely in the middle of the pack when it comes to farm systems right now. And when you consider Moises Ballesteros was a top 50 prospect at the beginning of the year and the emergence of Walbert Urena, George Klassen, and Luke Murphy there is additional young talent in the organization.

Yes, the Angels need more and it will take time. But for the first time in a long time, the overall talent level in the organization is moving in the right direction.
