Christian Walker Speaks Out After Embarrassing Loss Leaves Astros Reeling

The Houston Astros dropped one of the hardest games of the season at the worst time.

The Houston Astros completed a gauntlet against the AL West, a nine-game homestand this weekend, dropping each series and falling below .500. Against the Seattle Mariners, Los Angeles Angels and the Athletics, Houston won only three games, one of each per series.

The worst part: the Astros held a 6-0 lead against the Athletics on Sunday, looking like they would coast to a series victory. Out of nowhere, at the top of the fifth inning, Houston blew a 6-0 lead, thanks to a three-run home run, a one-run double, and a two-run single.

Houston was unable to come back, dropping a very tough game against a team that they needed to beat to have some space in the division. According to Space City Home Network, via Mark Berman on X (formerly Twitter), this is the first time since May 2011 that the Astros have blown a six-run lead at home and lost.

Following the heartbreaker, the media caught up with veteran first baseman Christian Walker, who collected one hit in five at-bats in the loss, to get his thoughts on a crucial loss that could affect the state of the division.

"We should be disappointed in the way we played, regardless of who's across the field from us. We're a better team than that," Walker said via MLB.com's Brian McTaggart on X (formerly Twitter).

"It's like, f--- we let some games slip away from us. We're a better team than this. We should expect more out of ourselves. You know, it's not doubting; it's not questioning or second-guessing. It's just, you know, being pissed off because we know we're capable of more."

Walker might not hold the highest batting average (.233), but he has 23 home runs and an OPS of .748. Regardless of not lighting the world on fire, it shows how much of a leader Walker is in the locker room full of players who need to shake off some cobwebs.

Losing each game this homestand isn't a good look for the Astros, despite still sitting atop the AL West standings. Now, they hold a -44 run differential and a 65-66 record, heading into New York to take on the Yankees. Sure, they still hold a playoff spot, but this production doesn't bode well compared to others chasing a pennant.

There's time for Houston to adjust, but losing the series to the Athletics isn't the best for team morale.
