Two Houston Astros Get MLB Insider’s All-Star Game Votes

In this story:
The Houston Astros are limping to the west coast in many ways.
Houston is seven games under .500 as they head to Anaheim to take on the Los Angeles Angels. Two more pitchers — José Urquidy and Cristian Javier — are out for the season after arm injuries. The Astros’ list of needs at the trade deadline is getting longer.
Voting for this year’s All-Star Game opened on Wednesday. Fans will spend the next few weeks selecting the starting lineup for the American and National Leagues when they convene at Globe Life Field, the home of the Texas Rangers, on July 16.
Astros on the ballot include first baseman Jon Singleton, second baseman Jose Altuve, shortstop Jeremy Peña, third baseman Alex Bregman, outfielders Kyle Tucker, Jake Meyers and Mauricio Dubón, designated hitter Yordan Alvarez and catcher Yainer Diaz.
But only two, according to CBSSports.com’s Matt Snyder, are worthy of a vote, at least in his estimation.
First is Tucker, whom he would vote for along with New York Yankees outfielders Aaron Judge and Juan Soto.
Tucker is putting together another MVP-caliber season in right field, where he is slashing .266/.395/.584/.979 with 19 home runs and 40 RBI entering the Angels series. Tucker has hit either 29 or 30 home runs in each of his last three seasons and driven in at least 100 runs in each of his last two seasons.
The other is Alvarez, who is approaching his usual production as the DH. He’s slashing .285/.357/.485/.842 with 12 home runs and 28 RBI. He has hit at least 30 home runs and driven in at least 90 runs in each of his last three seasons.
Alvarez and Tucker have been to the All-Star Game each of the last two seasons.
Phase 1 of All-Star Game voting ends on June 27, Fans can vote up to five times per day at MLB.com, the 30 team sites and the MLB app.
The top two vote-getters at each position and the top six outfielders will be revealed at 6 p.m. June 27 on MLB Network. The leading vote-getter in each league is automatically selected to the team.
The other top vote-getters advance to Phase 2, with voting set for June 30-July 3. Fans can vote one time and vote totals from Phase 1 don’t carry over. The winners at each position, along with the top three outfielders, will be revealed at 7 p.m. eastern on July 3.
Pitchers and reserves are determined by a player ballot and the Commissioner’s office. The complete roster is announced on July 7.
