Athletics Add Southpaw Who Could Make Quick Impact

The A's have been free-falling out of the American League for over a month now, and it seems like the season is over. Now the team will have to pivot to getting ready to build a contending squad, in hopes of becoming a playoff team before they play their inaugural season in Las Vegas in 2028.
One of the big moves recently was the A's parting ways with their General Manager, David Forst. Forst had spent 27 years in the A's organization, and 11 of those years he served as the team's GM.

The failure of this season should not have been placed on Forst, as the team has suffered numerous injuries and now might be without Nick Kurtz for the remainder of the season as well.
Shea Langeliers is likely out for the rest of the season, and Brent Rooker was also announced to be out for the season. The A's have been without all these stars, and now they are looking to get the help they need via the waiver wire.
Athletics Claim Drew Rom From Milwaukee
On Tuesday, the A's announced that they had claimed southpaw Drew Rom from the Milwaukee Brewers. Rom, 26, has pitched in nearly 40 big-league innings in a pair of seasons with the Brew Crew and the St. Louis Cardinals.
Unfortunately, it has not been all sunshine and rainbows for Rom in the big leagues, as he posted an abysmal 8.02 ERA in 33.2 innings last year in St. Louis. This season, he's had more success. He currently holds a 3.18 ERA in 5.2 innings for Milwaukee.

While he has not had lots of run in the big leagues for Milwaukee this season, his numbers in Triple-A likely sparked the move for the A's interim GM.
Rom posted a 2.20 ERA in 41 innings this season in Triple-A. That success could carry over to pitching in a new minor league stadium in West Sacramento for the A's, should the team call his name soon.
Rom Could Make His A's Debut Soon
The A's have a clear lack of bullpen depth, and adding this southpaw could be huge for them. Hogan Harris has been great all season, and they got a hot run out of Jose Suarez for a while, but he's cooled down tremendously since.
The team added Scott Blewett about a week ago, and he's been solid since joining the Green and Gold. It seems like the A's are living on the waiver wire, which is smart considering they need every arm they can get.

Averages only 91-93 mph, but has a pretty weird 4S that has a 33.6% whiff rate in AAA. Toyed with a sweeper and splitter.

Dallas Keuchel could also join the A's soon, as the team likely didn't sign the veteran just to rot in Triple-A for the rest of the season. Expect to see either southpaw join the mix sooner rather than later.
