Masyn Winn Exits for Cardinals: What We Know Now

In this story:
UPDATE: Jeff Jones of Belleville News-Democrat reported on Friday that Masyn Winn is likely to take the day off on Saturday. Jones noted that Winn was dealing with a hip, but it doesn't sound serious.
"Masyn Winn said he felt his hip on Tuesday evening in the cage, well before the accident," Jones wrote. "He said he 'probably overdid it,' took swings for two and a half hours or so trying to hit out of a slump. Likely he takes the day off tomorrow. He was going to get one here either way."
ORIGINAL POST: The St. Louis Cardinals provided some good news on Friday morning only to be followed by more tricky news shortly afterward.
The story of the week for the Cardinals has been the health of young shortstop Masyn Winn. The 24-year-old got into a car accident after the club's matchup against the New York Mets on Wednesday. Obviously, that was a scary incident and initially it wasn't clear how he was. He walked away from the car wreck healthy, fortunately, and actually was in the starting lineup on Friday.
It was a bit surprising to see Winn in the starting lineup just a few days after the car accident on Friday, but it was a good sign for his health. Unfortunately, he didn't make it through the entire game, though. WInn got the start at shortstop and at the top of the lineup. But he was replaced in the seventh inning with Nathan Church pinch-hitting for him. Winn exited the game, Thomas Saggese moved to shortstop and JJ Wetherholt entered the contest at second base.
The Cardinals shortstop had to leave early on Friday

Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat pointed out on X that Winn seemingly struggled to run out a ground ball in the fifth inning.
"Nathan Church is hitting for Masyn Winn, who seemed to struggle to run out a ground ball in his last plate appearance in the fifth. Update coming if there is one," Jones wrote in the seventh inning.
Jones also noted that there is "some concern" about Winn's early exit.
As of writing, the Cardinals haven't announced where things stand with Winn. After getting into a car accident and exiting early on Friday, it may not be the worst thing in the world to give him a day on Saturday, even if he comes away from this game healthy overall. The Cardinals will face off against the Tigers on Saturday with first pitch scheduled for 12:10 p.m. CDT.
After that, the Cardinals will finish off their series against the Tigers on Sunday night with the first pitch scheduled for 6:10 p.m. CDT. If Winn sits on Saturday, he'll have all of Saturday to recover and most of the day on Sunday. Arguably, this should be the case, even if there isn't an actual injury that caused him to exit early. Plus, the weather in Detroit isn't going to be good on Saturday. No need to risk Winn. As more information is provided, it will be shared here.
