The Los Angeles Dodgers made a major announcement on Thursday, revealing new uniforms that the team will wear this season.

The Dodgers will be consistently wearing a blue jersey for the first time in the team's history as part of their regular uniform rotation on the road.

The team also announced the special features on the jerseys which include:

  • Gray piping on the sleeves to match the team's road gray pants.
  • Road "Los Angeles" script on the front that has been there from 1959 to 1969 and then 1999 to present day.
  • Blue fabric in the shade of Dodger Blue.
  • "Dodgers" script patch on one sleeve.
  • Guggenheim patch on the other sleeve.
  • Traditional red front number with a gray outline for better legibility.

Here's a first look at the new uniforms:

The Dodgers have sported blue uniforms in the past, most recently when they had the "Los Dodgers" City Connect jerseys. However, they've never had a permanent blue jersey in their rotation, and have never worn one on the road.

In the past, the Dodgers rotated between two gray uniforms on the road, one saying "Los Angeles" with the other saying "Dodgers" across the front.

There have been rumors circulating over the last few weeks regarding the Dodgers adding a blue jersey to their rotation. The team has now confirmed those rumors, but didn't yet announce when they will debut.

The Dodgers are on the road for the first time this season, beginning a six-game road trip on Friday against the Washington Nationals. After three games in Washington, the Dodgers will head to Toronto for a World Series rematch against the Blue Jays.

It's currently unknown whether the Dodgers will be wearing these new uniforms for any of the games this road trip. If not, they'll be on the road again from April 17-23 when they take on the Colorado Rockies for four games and San Francisco Giants for three.

How to Buy Dodgers' New Blue Jerseys

The Dodgers' new blue road jerseys are for sale on the team's store online.

As of this writing, there are Shohei Ohtani and Freddie Freeman jerseys available, each for $199.99.

The store will likely continue to unveil more player options over the coming days and weeks. It's currently unknown if/when the store will allow for a customizable blue jersey.
