In this story:

The San Francisco Giants are under .500 after six games, but this weekend’s series with the New York Mets gives them a chance to fix that.

The Giants (2-4) return home to Oracle Park after taking two out of three games from the San Diego Padres. Monday’s win was the first for new manager Tony Vitello while the series win was the first of his managerial career. He was the top of conversation this week as ESPN’s Tim Kurkjian defender his hire while former MLB general manager Jim Bowden, well, did not.

Meanwhile, the Giants shook up the lineup, moving shortstop Willy Adames into the leadoff spot and it seemed to help spur the offense. Matt Chapman also had an interesting exchange with Casey Schmitt after an error in the fifth inning of Wednesday’s game.

The New York Mets (3-3) come to town working through some things after losing two out of three to the St. Louis Cardinals. The Mets have several news players this year, notably second baseman Marcus Semien, who was traded to New York from the Texas Rangers for outfielder Brandon Nimmo. The Mets scorched the Pirates and starter Paul Skenes for 11 runs on opening day. New York has scored 12 runs in the five games since.

Perhaps the Giants can do to the Mets what the Yankees did to them last weekend? Only the weekend will tell. Here is a preview of the series, with probable starters, game times and television designations.
