SF Giants top prospect gives loyal answers in MLB interview

Kyle Harrison was interviewed for this week for an MLB feature, and he very much did not make waves

By all accounts, SF Giants prospect Kyle Harrison (Giants #1 prospect) is a smart pitcher. After watching his interview for MLB's Minor League Baseball Player Spotlight, it's clear that Harrison gives smart interview answers as well. Namely, ones that flatter his future big-league club and teammates.

Harrison fielded four questions about his baseball dreams. With three of them, he managed to flatter the Giants organization.

He chose catcher Patrick Bailey, also from the Giants' 2020 draft class, as his dream battery mate. He picked Oracle Park as his dream ballpark, and Logan Webb as the player he'd most want as a teammate.

The only divergence from the Giants' organization came when Harrison chose Aaron "Arson" Judge and Shohei Ohtani as the MLB hitters he most wanted to face. But even that could help the team! When the Giants pursue Ohtani this offseason, it can't hurt that Harrison is on video testifying that the Angels slugger is "great at what he does."

It's not that Harrison is being dishonest. He probably did dream about pitching at Oracle Park while going to high school at De La Salle, less than 30 miles away in Concord. Patrick Bailey probably is "a great guy and a hard worker," and he also seems quite lovable! And Harrison probably could learn a lot from Webb, who was already giving him tips in spring training.

Webb had nice things to say about Harrison this spring as well.

Perhaps Harrison simply believes in speaking things into existence. The 21-year-old left-hander has 61 strikeouts in 34 1/3 innings, which translates to 16 strikeouts per nine innings. He still has control issues, with 31 walks, which is nearly one per inning. But in May, Harrison cut that down to ten walks in 18 2/3 innings - not great, but a big improvement.

The way he's dominating, it feels like only a matter of time before he really is pitching to Patrick Bailey at Oracle Park, with his new best friend Logan Webb cheering him on.

And if Kyle Harrison can earn a promotion to the big leagues by the end of July, he can achieve another one his dreams. The SF Giants face Ohtani and the Angels in Anaheim August 5-7. He may get to see how his stuff holds up against the 2021 MVP sooner than he thinks.
