Jose Ramirez Makes Franchise History During Guardians Home Opener

Jose Ramirez becomes the all-time leader in home runs hit by a Cleveland Guardians third baseman.

The total solar eclipse was cool and all, but it wasn’t the only historic event to happen at Progressive Field on Monday afternoon. Jose Ramirez climbed up the franchise leaderboards during the team’s home opener.

J-Ram went deep in the bottom of the fifth inning driving in the team’s third and fourth runs of the game against the Chicago White Sox. This homer was significant for a couple of reasons.

This was Ramirez’s 174th career home run which breaks Al Rosen’s franchise record for the most home runs hit by a Cleveland third baseman. This was also his 100th career home run and Progressive Field which is an incredible individual achievement.

What made all of his even better was what pitcher gave up the home run. Brayn Shaw, who spent seven total seasons in Cleveland pitching out of the bullpen, was who gave it up to Ramirez. It was a lengthy at-bat and Shaw had him on the ropes, but Ramirez got the best of this matchup.

I’m sure these two will share a good laugh about it after the game.

This homer was also his second of the season as Ramirez continues his hot start.

Ramirez doesn’t need to do anything else to solidify his place as one of Cleveland’s all-time great players. He’s consistently in the MVP conversation, has led the offense since he was called up, and chose to stay in Cleveland instead of a large payday.  Watching him set history is just a bonus.
