REPORT: Guardians Reached Out To Amed Rosario Regarding Contract Extension

Well, things just got a little more interesting less than a week before the 2023 MLB season officially kicks off.
A recent report from the Athletic said that the Cleveland Guardians reached out to Amed Rosario and his agent regarding a contract extension. However, he does not believe that the two sides will come to an agreement before Thursday. But Rosario also doesn't view Opening Day as a deadline for anything either.
This report comes on the heels of comments from president of baseball operations Chris Antonetti saying that he was hopeful that the organization could reach a deal or deals with unknown players.
Rosario also Tweeted a couple of cryptic Tweets on Saturday afternoon, but those were apparently unrelated to any contract extension talks. Perhaps he was excited about the Opening Day roster which was announced a short time after they were sent.
Rosario signing an extension with the Guardians would have a domino effect throughout the organization. Cleveland has a surplus of middle infield prospects, with some of them ready to play in the Big Leagues right now.
What would happen to those prospects is anyone's guess. Would they stay in the organization getting consistent playing time in the Minors? Would Terry Francona get even more creative with the lineup to find them playing time? Could they make a transition to another position? How about packaging them and trading them for a player that would make them immediate World Series contenders?
There are a lot of scenarios that could play out.
This definitely won't be the end of this story and it's something that fans of the Guardians organization and general baseball fans will want to keep an eye on during the regular season.
