Guardians Spring Training Players Of The Game: Split Squad Vs. Cubs

Cleveland's Deyvison De Los Santos, Tyler Freeman, Logan Allen, and Tim Herrin each had a productive game in the team's 5-3 loss to the Chicago Cubs.

The Cleveland Guardians suffered their seventh 2024 Cactus League loss with a 5-3 defeat to the Chicago Cubs this past Sunday afternoon.

With 90 players representing the Guardians during spring training (40-man roster, 22 non-roster invitees, and 28 depth camp players), each game’s roster will vary.

Based on Cleveland’s roster for this past Sunday’s game and their performances in the contest, here are four Players of the Game.

Deyvison De Los Santos, 1B

After hitting 1-for-11 (.091) in his first five games this spring, the Guardians’ 13th-ranked prospect according to Baseball America recorded his first multi-hit game of the spring.

He finished 2-for-4 at the plate with a two-out RBI single in the top of the first inning, which gave Cleveland a 1-0 lead. This was also De Los Santos’ first RBI of the spring.

Tyler Freeman, CF

For the first time in his MLB career, the 24-year-old utilityman played in center field. Defensively, he recorded one putout, which ended the third inning.

Offensively, Freeman recorded a hit in his third consecutive game, as his two-out RBI single in the top of the second inning extended the Guardians’ lead to 2-0. He also tallied his second stolen base of the spring and drew a hit-by-pitch in the top of the first inning.

Logan Allen, LHP

The 25-year-old had a near-perfect first start of the spring.

The left-hander pitched two scoreless, hitless innings, and threw a pair of strikeouts. His only blemish of the day was a walk to begin the bottom of the second inning.

Tim Herrin, LHP

After allowing a solo home run to begin the bottom of the sixth inning, the left-hander had an efficient frame.

Herrin retired the next three Cubs hitters, striking out the final two and earning his first hold of the spring.
