New York Mets Are Looking Into Trading For More Starting Pitching
Although the New York Mets have seemingly filled out their rotation with five viable veterans, they are not finished scaling the market for starting pitching.
According to MLB insider Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns is “actively trying to trade for more starting pitching.”
As Feinsand also reported, the Mets are not believed to be in on free agent starters Blake Snell and Jordan Montgomery due to their high price tags.
The Mets revealed that they are going to retool in 2024, looking at 2025 as their next window to compete. Their offseason plan has reflected this blueprint.
As it stands, Kodai Senga, the runner-up for NL Rookie of the Year last season, is the Mets' ace. Behind Senga, New York's rotation features Jose Quintana, Luis Severino, Sean Manaea and Adrian Houser.
The Mets' rotation depth is currently Tylor Megill, Joey Lucchesi and Jose Butto. David Peterson will likely be in the mix as well, but he is expected to miss at least half the season after undergoing offseason hip surgery.
While the Mets' rotation doesn't project a ton of upside, it does possess five arms, who have proven to be capable, or more than capable at the big-league level. And according to Feinsand, Stearns is still looking to add more starting pitching on the trade market.
